In summer everybody wants to swim, particularly children. Unfortunately there are not as many swimming pools around and even if they are, they cost too much; so people are going to pools which are closer to their homes and cost less. With the rise in the price of gasoline, people are not usually going out regularly and are using swimming pools in their own backyards to enjoy a holiday at home. Swimming is fun and is a great work out too. But swimming pools may be very unsafe as well especially to children, because of the threat of drowning.
Drowning is the second major cause of accidental deaths of kids. It merely takes two minutes with no oxygen to get unconscious and within five to seven minutes devoid of oxygen, a youngster may have irremediable brain injury. To make sure that children are secure in and around a pool one needs to have total control while they're swimming. There's a device known as Swimming Pool Alarm which can be turned on while your swimming pool is closed. The alarm is available with a remote handset which may be positioned in your home up to 200 feet from the core component which is positioned at the pool side. The alarm may be a life saver as it is positioned to the side of the swimming pool and has an electronic sensing element which senses any shakeup in the water except the waves originated by the wind. When activated, the Alarm goes off, creating a very high pitched sound around the swimming pool and in the handset positioned within your house.
It means that if the Swimming Pool Alarm senses any splatter in the swimming pool except those originated by wind, it will start out the pool alarm. If one of your kids or somebody else attempts to sneak a swim in your swimming pool -- or even if your little puppy or your mature dog slip in -- then the pool alarm will inform you that you need to go to the poolside instantly. If you have a swimming pool in your backyard you have to be watchful all the time so that kids do not go swimming unattended. You want to be ensured as well that nobody is in or close to your swimming pool without your acquaintance. A Swimming Pool Alarm is your first sign of warning that somebody is playing around in your swimming pool.

Swimming Pool Alarms are just one of the many levels of security which should be applied in and around the pool, to lessen the occurrence of drowning disasters. There are a number of pool alarms available in the market today, although, it might be hard to identify which one to select. An assessment of pool alarms carried out by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in 2000 has pointed out three special kinds of alarms - wristband sensor, subsurface disturbance sensors, and surface wave sensors. Subsurface disturbance sensors are affixed to the sides of the swimming pool, and a part of this sensor is dipped under the water surface. Surface wave sensors hover on the surface of the water. The wristband sensor is worn by the kid and the alarm goes off if the device goes into the water.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission's study integrated several pool alarm gadgets in six backyard pools of different sizes and shapes. The objectives of the study were to find out whether the subsurface and surface wave sensors would alarm while an object goes into the swimming pool, and to find out whether the wristband would send an alarm when dipped in water. Moreover, the study experimented for fake alarms which might be activated by climate conditions for example rain and wind; and those which may be activated by an object for instance volleyball. Corresponding to the outcome of the Consumer Product Safety Commission's study, the surface wave sensors did not carry out as consistently as the subsurface disturbance sensors while an object was thrown into the swimming pool. The study reasons out that subsurface disturbance sensor were more reliable in sounding the alarm and carried lesser probability of fake alarms than surface alarms. The wristband sensor triggered an alert every time it was sunken in swimming pool and every time it was dipped to new water sources.
Swimming pool alarms might come with numerous other qualities. The following some of the qualities to look for while making a decision in regard to buying a pool alarm for your swimming pool:
*A high pitched alarm should go off within twenty seconds after a child device has fallen into the swimming pool.
*effortless setting up
*Tamper proofÂ
*Comprise a remote handset and work with a distance of at least two hundred feet
*Battery indicator on receiver and on alarm
*Suggested for the shape and size of your poolÂ
*Capable to sense an object such as a one year old baby
So, you must make up your mind as to which swimming pool alarm is best for your backyard pool. As it is, no alarm is foolproof regardless of how many features and technologies are integrated and no matter what declarations are given by the company. Swimming Pool alarms should be measured as one of several layers of defense in the attempt to prevent kids from drowning; apart from defensive barricades, safety pool covers and door alarms.

Great hub! The Safety Turtle, which I believe is pictured above, is the alarm that we use at home and it is great. We know that our toddler has an extra level of protection around the pool.
